Life Forms: Gather
Where: SPEEDWELL Contemporary, 630 Forest Avenue, Portland, ME, 04101, United States
When November 23rd - January 11th, 2025.
SPEEDWELL Contemporary is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by the Life Forms artist collective opening November 23 with a reception from 5-7pm.
Life Forms Gather is an exhibition of sculptural works by twelve artists that address a wide range of themes including climate change and interconnectivity, the vulnerability, grace, and complexities of the Black experience, physical and psychological structures of site, the potential of our material environment to hold meaning, and the blurring of the real and imagined. Each of the artists in Life Forms are growing new ideas, bending expectations, and will be encouraging themselves and their audiences to question assumptions and make fresh associations.
Our second all-member exhibition opens @ SPEEDWELL Contemporary next Saturday the 23rd and continues through January 11. Lynn Durea, an advisory board member will also be participating in the panel discussion on December 7th. Please join us for any or all events!
Community Art Night
Every Sunday from 2-5pm in the Community Room at Lights Out!
The Community Art Night is a weekly time on Sundays for people in the community to convene, make new friends, and cook up some art with other creative people. Painting, knitting, coloring books, collage, YOU NAME IT! We have the space and will have enough materials for a communal group drawing, but we encourage you to bring your own materials and projects that suit your whim. Please carry out what you carry in as we do not have a sink.
PLEASE NOTE: This event is not about making good art. We do not care if you consider yourself an artist, or if you have never made art before. We want this free space to be available for connections, discovering new practices, exploring, and having fun!
Community Volunteer Day!
Join us in creating fun holiday decorations!
Mark your calendars for December 4th! From 10am-1pm we will be making holiday decorations for our upcoming holiday party! Garlands, dried oranges, snowflakes! You name it! We would love to see you and give feed you a delicious lunch after!
